Pope Francis supports a UN resolution calling for a halt to conflicts to facilitate the fight against Coved-19

Pope Francis expressed his support for the UN Security Council Resolution calling to stop conflicts to facilitate the fight against the Covid 19-pandemic.

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted the resolution on Wednesday after more than three months of negotiations, calling for an “immediate cessation of all conflicts” except for battles against jihadist groups.

“The request for a global and immediate ceasefire that permits the necessary peace and security to provide the required humanitarian assistance is commendable,” the Pope drew after the proselytizing prayer at St. Peter’s Basilica.

“I hope this decision will be implemented effectively and immediately for the benefit of many people who suffer,” he said, adding that he hoped that this Security Council resolution would become a courageous first step towards a peaceful future.
