According to a statement quoted by the Iraqi News Agency from the country’s Supreme Judicial Council, it was decided to form an investigative body of 3 judges and a public prosecutor specializing in the investigation of assassination crimes in the capital, Baghdad, and the rest of the provinces.
It is scheduled that the new investigation commission in Iraq will coordinate with the Ministry of Interior in this regard.
This comes hours after the assassination of the Iraqi security expert, Hisham Al-Hashemi, by unknown persons in the Zayouna area of the capital, Baghdad.
The Iraqi Minister of Interior, Othman Al-Ghanimi, had ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the assassination of Hashemi.
The commission, which was ordered by Al-Ghanmi, is chaired by the Under Secretary for Federal Intelligence and Investigation and the membership of the Director General of Intelligence and the Director of Baghdad Crime Prevention and is responsible for investigating the assassination and reaching the perpetrators.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, vowed to pursue the killers of Al-Hashemi, stressing that there is no tolerance for the assassinations to return to the country.
The assassination of Hashemi received international condemnations, calls to hold the perpetrators accountable, and the United Nations and the European Union mission condemned the assassination of Hashemi. The UN Special Representative in Iraq, Henness Blachhardt, said in a statement: “We were shocked by the assassination of Dr. Hisham Al Hashemi.”
