(Reuters) – Google said on Wednesday that it had closed its Cloud Computing project, “Isolated Region”, and had not offered to provide platform services in China, after Bloomberg News reported that the company had canceled the project there.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bloomberg said that in May Google abandoned the project in China and other “politically sensitive” countries, partly because of escalating geopolitical and pandemic tensions. But the search engine giant said that the closure of the project was not for these reasons.

The Isolated Region project was intended to provide cloud computing services to clients and regulators worldwide.
