Ali Hamad, a member of the Emirates Football Association Board of Directors, made a big surprise, saying that for the first time he heard about the possibility of his country hosting the remaining African Champions League.

“Hosting the African Champions League? This is an important strategic decision and an inherent right of CAF, and the question should be directed to them. We, as an Emirati federation, for the first time we hear about this,” Hamad said in comments to Al-Talatah program on Ontime Sports 2.

Kef had set September to hold the remainder of the CAF Champions League and Confederacy matches, at a time when press reports dealt with the possibility of the UAE hosting the event.

Ashraf Sobhi, the Egyptian Minister of Sports, revealed Egypt’s readiness to host the event, but some small details will be confirmed before Kav is addressed.

And press reports indicated that the remaining period of the African Champions League could be held outside the continent, particularly in Abu Dhabi.

The Al-Ahly and Zamalek teams qualified for the CAF Champions League semi-finals, as Al-Ahly meets the Moroccan Wydad team, while Zamalek plays against the Moroccan Raja.

The AU Confederation Committee is scheduled to issue its final decision regarding the country hosting the Champions League matches in the coming days.
