Former Barcelona legend, the current coach of the Qatari Al-Sadd football club, Spain’s Xavi Hernandez, announced on Saturday that he had contracted the new Corona virus.
The Barcelona midfielder and the former Spain squad said that he would be subjected to personal isolation, while his team Al-Sadd of Qatar is preparing to play in its first match later today, Saturday, after the resumption of the Qatar League.
Xavi, who extended his contract with Al Sadd on July 5, added in a statement: “Today I will not be able to join my team during his return to the official tournament … David Prats, coach of the second team of the dam, will lead the technical staff on my behalf.”
“A few days ago … the result of my last examination was positive (i.e. injured). Fortunately I feel fine, but I will be removed until I am allowed to return,” the Spanish coach added.
The Qatar Stars League matches resumed on Friday, after being suspended since last March due to the global health crisis of the rapidly spreading virus.
Al-Sadd, the defending champion and third-placed, will meet Al-Khor on Saturday, five rounds before the end of the season.
