Nissan expects to close 1.7 billion dollars to close its factories in Barcelona

A union source told Reuters on Monday that Nissan Motor estimated that closing its Barcelona factories could cost it up to 1.5 billion euros ($ 1.7 billion), according to Reuters.
A spokesman for the Japanese car maker, declined to comment.
And the decision to leave Barcelona announced in April last week as part of a plan to revive its activity sparked protests by workers and a pledge by the Spanish government to do everything in its power to persuade the company to stay.
The Barcelona-based newspaper, Lavangardia, earlier today quoted documents to Nissan as saying that closing its factories could cost the company 1.45 billion euros, mostly in the form of payments to about three thousand workers who will be laid off.
The union source said that Nissan informed the workers a few weeks ago that closing its three factories in Barcelona would cost them around 1.5 billion euros.
