As Washington and Beijing continue to exchange accusations over dealing with the Corona pandemic, which has claimed the lives of more than a quarter of a million people around the world, China has issued a lengthy article denouncing what it described as 24 “illogical allegations” by some prominent American politicians over its stance on the outbreak of the virus.
The State Department devoted most of its press statements over the past week to denying the accusations of America, especially Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, that China withheld information and that the virus originated in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
And it included a 30-page article, numbering 11,000 words, published by the Ministry on its website yesterday evening, Saturday, in order to repeat and explain the denunciations mentioned in the press statements, and began to cite Abraham Lincoln, the American president in the nineteenth century.
“As Lincoln said, you can fool some people all of the time, and you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time,” the article said.
The article also cited media reports that Americans had contracted the virus before confirming its first infection in Wuhan. There is no evidence for this.
“The virus is not manmade”
In an effort to refute American allegations that the virus was deliberately created or leaked in some way from the Institute of Virology in Wuhan, the article said that all evidence shows that the virus is not manmade and that the institute does not have the capabilities to create a new virus.
The article also set a timetable for China to provide information to the international community “in a timely manner” and “in a transparent manner,” denying US allegations that it had slowed its warning.
Withholding Western information and criticism
Despite China’s repeated assertions, concern about the timing of the delivery of information continues in some circles. A report published by the German magazine “Der Spiegel” Friday quoted the German intelligence service as saying that China’s attempts to initially withhold information lost the world between four and six weeks. Tapped to fight the virus.
The article rejected Western criticism of China’s handling of the case of Li Winliang, a 34-year-old doctor who tried to draw attention to the outbreak of the new virus in Wuhan. His death from Covid 19, a respiratory illness caused by the virus, caused anger and sadness in China. The article stated that Lee was not aware of a danger and that he was not imprisoned as many Western reports have stated.
But he did not mention that Li was reprimanded by the police for spreading rumors. Although he became a “hero” saddened by the Chinese, the investigation of his case sparked criticism after he proposed withdrawing his reprimand.
The article rejected the proposals of US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo that the virus should be called “the Chinese virus” or “Wuhan virus”, the article referred to documents from the World Health Organization stating that the virus should not be associated with a place or country.
More than 4 million infections worldwide
In addition, the new Corona virus has killed at least 279,185 people since it first appeared in China last December, according to a census conducted by AFP at 11:00 GMT Sunday, according to official sources.
The number of recorded cases of the virus more than 4 million and 35 thousand and 470 cases in 195 countries and regions. Of these, at least 1,343,000 and 700 patients have recovered.
