US President Donald Trump has changed his expectations about the death toll from the corona virus pandemic emerging in the United States, hoping that this number will be less than 100,000 dead.
“We hope that we will be at a level of less than 100,000 deaths, but this number is terrible in any way,” Trump said, in a press statement made on Friday evening in the yard of the White House.
Trump stressed, however, that “it was possible and should have stopped the spread of the virus at its source,” referring to China.
He continued: “We have now started a gradual process to reopen the country, thanks to our ability to flatten the epidemic curve, slow the spread and broaden our capabilities in the health sector.”
Projections about the possible outcome of the pandemic in the United States have changed several times, and Trump has previously warned that the Corona virus could kill 100,000 to 200,000 Americans, but he said in press statements last month that this number would likely range from 60,000 To 70 thousand.
The United States is the first country in the world in terms of the number of new cases of coronavirus with 121,6432 cases, as well as in terms of death toll from the disease with 65,598 cases.
