Facebook has always connected you with everything you love: friends and family, as well as products, brands and companies. For years, people have used our apps to buy and sell things, from publishing a bike picture and putting it on sale for the first time to selling coffee tables on the Marketplace and current shopping patterns from your favorite brands and influencers on Instagram. It was the people who used our apps who conceived of social commerce and we help them transform it into reality.
We want to provide people with a place to experience the joy of shopping rather than doing it as if it were a necessary and enjoyable task. We also want to help small businesses adapt and make it easier for individuals to discover and buy the things they love.

Many small businesses are suffering now, and with the stores closed, more are looking to take their businesses to the Internet. Our goal is to make shopping smooth and enable anyone with a small business and any global brand to use our apps to communicate with customers. For this reason, we launch Facebook Shops and invest in the benefits of our apps that encourage people to shop and make buying and selling online easier.

Facebook Shops launch

Facebook Shops makes it easy for companies to create a single online store that allows customers to access them through Facebook and Instagram. Creating a Facebook Shop is free and simple, as companies can choose the products they want to include from their product list, and modify the look of their store through a cover photo and distinctive colors that reflect their brand. This enables any seller, regardless of size or budget, to transfer their business to the Internet and communicate with customers wherever and whenever it is appropriate for them.

People can find Facebook Shops on the Foundation’s Facebook or Instagram page, or discover them through stories or ads. You can browse the full collection, save the products of interest to you, and buy them either on the organization’s website or without exiting the application if the organization provides a checkout in the United States.

Just like when you are in a physical store and need someone’s help, in Facebook Shops you will be able to send a message to the organization via WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram Direct to ask questions, get support, track deliveries and more. In the future, you will be able to view the Foundation’s store and make direct purchases through chatting via WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram Direct.

We started with Facebook Shops today to become more widely available in the coming months. You can read more about how we create stores with privacy in mind here.

We also invest in the benefits of our applications such as Instagram Shop, direct shopping and other features that will be integrated into Facebook Shops to help customers discover the products that interest them and facilitate the purchase process.

Instagram Shop: A new place to discover products and brands

This summer we will be introducing the Instagram Shop starting in the US as these stores provide a new way to discover and purchase the products you love in Instagram Explore. You can browse collections from @shop and see the best of your favorite brands and creators, in addition to the ability to choose categories such as cosmetics, household products and buy everything you love in one place. Later this year, we will add a new Store tab in the navigation bar so you can access Instagram Shop with one click.

Benefits of direct shopping

People have been using live video on our apps to display products for years, from shoe stores announcing new sneakers to cosmetic influencers who are trying out a new product. We facilitate real-time product shopping and sellers, brands and innovators will soon be able to make a “tag” of products from their Facebook Shop or catalog before starting a live broadcast so that these products are displayed at the bottom of the video so people can easily click to learn more and buy. We have started testing this feature with companies on Facebook and Instagram and will be introducing it more widely in the coming months
Connect loyalty programs to your Facebook account

We are also testing ways to facilitate earning rewards from the institutions you love by enabling you to link loyalty programs such as the points program in the local cafe, to your account on Facebook and you will be able to see and track your points and rewards easily. We are also exploring ways to help small businesses create, manage and display a loyalty program on Facebook Shops.

Work with partners

We also work closely with partners like Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Channel Advisor, CedCommerce, Cafe24, Tienda Nube and Feedonomics to give small businesses the support they need. These organizations provide powerful tools to help entrepreneurs create, manage and move their businesses online. It will also help small businesses create and grow their own Facebook Shops and use our other business tools.

We hope these tools can reduce the pressures small firms face today and help companies of all sizes prepare for the future.
