The discovery of a giant planet, today Saturday 2 May 2020 08:30 pm
A team of astronomers led by the University of Hawaii Institute of Astronomy found the giant Kepler-88 d planet, three times the mass of Jupiter, 1,243 light-years from Earth. The team of scientists, in cooperation with the Institute, analyzed data received for a period of six years using the Кек I telescope in the Hawaiian Islands.
Using a high-precision HIRES spectroscope mounted on a telescope, it was possible to confirm that the star Kepler-88 had a fourth planet with a four-year orbital period and an elliptical orbit, according to The Astronomical Journal.
The gas giant Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. The mass of Jupiter is equivalent to 2.47 times the total mass of all other planets in the Solar System combined.
