Zhejiang Geely Holding Group C launched a $ 52 million (370 million Chinese yuan) initiative in the name of “Healthy Car Project”, pledging to introduce innovative new features aimed at protecting passengers from viruses and bacteria.
The group said that the new cars that will be produced will be equipped under this new logo, with a special air purification system called “G-Clean Intelligent System Purification System”, which the group claims will provide the same level of medical masks in protecting from and preventing particulate matter in the air.
The group also promised to rely on new environmentally sustainable materials with anti-bacterial and anti-virus properties that can be used inside the car’s air conditioner systems and on frequently touched surfaces such as buttons and knobs, according to the British Daily Mail.
China-based Shanghai Motors Corp. said it would now offer its customers the option to add a UV lamp to the car’s air conditioning vents, which it claims are able to sterilize the air in the main vehicle compartment.
The Chinese-based Guangzhou-based GAC has also begun strengthening its air filter system, which it says will help protect against viruses, bacteria, fine particles, gaseous pollutants, pollen and mold spores.
These safety features have been popular in China for years.
Some analysts have criticized these measures as a gimmick based on unreliable techniques, at a time of growing concern about respiratory pathogens.
On the other hand, analyst Sean Ren from the Chinese market research group told the British “BBC” that companies are trying as much as possible to take advantage of the fears of Corona virus to sell products and services to consumers.
“I’m not a doctor or a scientist, but I warn consumers not to be wary of any company that says its products reduce or protect against virus transmission, especially as a benefit 19,” Ren said.
An analyst at the American “Frost & Sullivan” marketing research company said that the new features related to passenger health will become a global trend and will not only be China, but will be supported by all global car companies.
