President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he was studying the request to conduct Corona virus tests for travelers arriving in the United States on international flights, and he made special reference to Brazil.
“We will probably do that. Brazil is experiencing a largely outbreak, as you know,” he said in a White House meeting with Florida Gov. Ron Desantis.
“We will make this decision very soon.”
In response to a question whether he would ask for tests for the emerging corona virus or a simple temperature check, Trump replied, “Both.” The Republican president said he is discussing the issue with state governors, especially Desantes, whose state is a major destination for flights in Latin America.
“We are talking to others who have a lot of business coming from South America and we will make a decision,” he said.
The Trump administration had previously imposed a travel ban with Europe and China as a measure to stop the spread of the rapidly spreading virus, which has already killed more than 50,000 Americans, while shutting down much of the world’s largest economy.
Trump said that the new precautionary measures would include conducting a Corona virus test “on board and before its independence,” noting that the government was in talks with airlines.
