A new team in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons concluded, in its first report, that the Syrian Air Force used Su-22 military aircraft and a helicopter, and dropped bombs containing toxic chlorine and sarin gas on a village in the western Hama region in March 2017, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

The Special Investigation Unit was formed by members of the organization in 2018 to identify the perpetrators of the unlawful attacks.

So far, the organization’s mission is limited to identifying the attacks and not identifying the perpetrators.

Officials of Bashar al-Assad’s regime and Russia, his main supporter, have repeatedly denied using chemical weapons and accused opposition fighters of launching attacks to implicate the regime.
