The Spanish Football Federation announced today, Thursday, after a meeting of its committee in charge of managing professional championships, that the first four teams in the current league arrangement, will participate in the Champions League competition next season if the season is canceled, due to the outbreak of the Corona virus “Covid-19” .

The federation agreed to extend the end of this season and the start of the new season beyond June 30.

In the event of the cancellation of the season, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Seville and Real Sociedad will participate in the “Championships”, and the King’s Cup champion, in addition to the fifth and sixth teams in the “League” will currently participate in the European League.

With this, Atletico Madrid will be out of the Champions League, which has eliminated the defending champions Liverpool, from the current version of the tournament.

In the event that the King’s Cup final is held, the winner of the European League will qualify, but if the winner is among the first six, then the seventh place will be qualified.

If the final does not rise and the two parties are in the first six places, the seventh-ranked player will also qualify, and if one of them is in the first positions, the other team will qualify, and if the two parties are outside the six places, the best of them will qualify in the “League” ranking.

Currently, after 27 rounds are over, the Catalan team leads Barcelona with 58 points, in second place Real Madrid (56 points), then Seville (47 points), in fourth place Real Sociedad (46 points), and in fifth place Getafe with the same balance In sixth place, with 45 points, followed by Valencia with 42 points, then Villarreal with 38 points.

The Spanish League, expressed its surprise at the Spanish Federation’s determination of the list of teams qualified for the two continental competitions without a decision so far to cancel the season, considering that the Spanish Federation does not have the powers to make such a decision without the approval of the organizer of the Spanish professional championship.

The association’s president, Javier Tepas, said earlier this month that “the various scenarios that we had been looking for with the European Union for the game for return are likely to start on May 29, June 6-7 or June 28”.

Tibas warned the clubs that they could lose up to one billion euros if the season was not completed.
