The IAAF suspends the Olympic qualifiers until December

“The qualification period for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has been suspended from April 6 to November 30,” the International Federation said in a statement on its official website, a week after the decision to postpone the Olympic Games that were scheduled this summer in Japan to the summer. 2021, precisely between July 23 and August 8, in the wake of the outbreak of the new Corona virus.

“During this period, the results achieved in any competition will not be taken into account in order to qualify for Tokyo 2020 or in the world rankings, which will also be suspended. Results will be recorded for inclusion in statistics, including world records, subject to the conditions in place.”

The qualification for the Olympic Games is either by achieving the minimum required in each race and competition or thanks to their position in the world rankings, which are also pending until 30 November.

It is noteworthy that the World Athletics Championships that were scheduled in the city of Eugene, Oregon, were postponed in the summer of 2021 to the year 2022, due to the postponement of the Olympics.
