The Saudi Minister of Culture, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, appointed Dr. Sumaya Al-Sulaiman, CEO of the Architecture and Design Authority, which was recently launched within 11 new cultural bodies affiliated with the Ministry.
Dr. Sumaya Al-Sulaiman is considered one of the specialized experiences in this field, where she obtained a PhD in the same specialty from Newcastle University in Britain in 2010, and a postdoctoral fellowship in the Ibn Khaldun program from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, in addition to administrative qualifications from the institute itself , Including the decision “After smart cities: designs and emerging technology”, the executive program “negotiations and influence”, an executive certificate in management and leadership, and a certificate in strategy and innovation.
Dr. Al-Sulaiman has held the position of Dean of the College of Designs at Imam Abdul Rahman bin Faisal University since 2017, and has been a member of the Municipal Council of the Eastern Region Municipality, and participated as curator of the first Saudi national pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in Italy.
The new body will assume multiple tasks through which it will develop the arts and architecture sector in all its directions, including drawing the sector’s strategy and setting up regulations related to it, licensing related activities, encouraging investment in the field, as well as providing training courses and professional programs and supporting intellectual property rights in related fields , And other organizational tasks.
The Architecture and Design Authority comes among the new bodies launched by the Ministry of Culture to manage the sector with its various specialties, and will work to translate the Ministry’s plans towards the architecture and design sector by creating an innovative field that allows to highlight the style of Saudi architecture, and develop it in a way that reflects pride in the Kingdom’s ancient national identity as an important part One of the themes of “The Kingdom’s Vision 2030”.
