Italian Economy Minister: GDP down 6% in 2020 “realistic” estimate

Italian Economy Minister Roberto # Gualtieri said on Wednesday that the expectation of a business lobby group to decrease the gross domestic product by six percent due to the emergency crisis of the Corona virus this year is realistic.

“Unfortunately, the estimates are realistic … at the same time we can say that (the Italian economy) can target a strong recovery,” Gualtieri told the daily Alfoto Cotidiano in an interview.

The minister also said that the resort to the European Stability Mechanism to combat the crisis linked to infectious disease, under the current circumstances, was not an option, but Europe needs a common financial policy as well as “new solutions to determine the appropriate and joint response.”
