The famous Montreux Jazz Festival announced on Friday the cancellation of this year’s version due to the Corona virus, the first time it has been canceled since 1967.

“The officials of the Montreux Jazz Festival regret to announce that this year’s version, which was scheduled to take place from 3 to 18 July 2020, has been canceled,” the organizers said in a statement.

They added: “It has become impossible for us to think about holding an event at the level of the Montreux Jazz Festival.”

He was scheduled to participate in the 2020 edition of the festival, whose program “will be partially postponed to next year’s session which will be held from 2 to 17 July 2021”, Lionel Richie, Brittany Howard, Lenny Kravitz and Black Boomaz.

The Montreux Festival, which takes place in the Swiss city on the shores of Lake Geneva, has become, over the past 50 years, a magnet for both big names and rising stars.

On Thursday, the Swiss government announced that it would gradually start to ease some preventive measures against the Corona virus, but stressed that most hygiene and social separation measures would remain the same.
