Belgian swimmer Peter Timmers, the silver medalist in the 100m freestyle in the 2016 Rio Olympics, decided not to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo after being postponed to 2021 due to the new epidemic of the Coruna virus.

“The postponement of the Olympic Games from 2020 to 2021 due to the Covid-19 crisis frustrated my plan that I had for years: to present everything, once in the games, and then start a new chapter in my life,” Timmers told the newspaper, La Dernier Orr.

The 32-year-old Al-Sabah added: “I do not want to change my plan. In other words: I will not participate in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Unfortunately, it is a decision that satisfies me because I chose it and it is a well-thought-out decision.”

He continued: “I have provided everything for several years and I will continue to do so for some time in the future. I will not stop immediately. I will participate in the European Championships that I hope will take place in August in Budapest.”
