The Irish Football Federation announced today, Saturday, the appointment of Stephen Kenny as technical director of the Irish national team, to succeed Mick McCarthy immediately.
The procedures for handing over the post of Kenyan coach were made ahead of time, after the postponement of the qualifying extension for the European Cup finals due to the “Corona” epidemic.
The Irish Confederation said on its website that the McCarthy contract was to expire on July 31 after the European Nations Championship finals that were supposed to take place this year before being postponed for next year.
Initially, Stephen was to take up his new position after the end of his commitments with the Under-21 youth team on August 1.
With this move, Kenny will have enough time to prepare for the World Cup semi-final clash with Slovakia.
