Singer Laren Museum in the Netherlands announces the theft of a painting by Vincent Van Gogh.
The Singer Laren museum in the Netherlands has announced that Vincent Van Gogh’s painting was stolen from him on Sunday night.
The museum is closed as part of general isolation measures to contain the spread of the emerging corona virus.
The stolen painting is “The Garden of Spring”, which Van Gogh painted in 1884 and was borrowed from the Groninger Museum.
“We are angry, shocked and distressed,” the museum’s director-general, Evert Van Auss, told a YouTube news conference.
For its part, UNESCO commented on what happened, saying, “This theft reminds us of the need to mobilize to combat illicit trafficking in cultural property.”
