“ANSM”, a French government agency specialized in the pharmaceutical field, said that the drug hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine should not be used without proper medical supervision, stressing that “when these drugs are misused they are toxic and can be responsible for serious heart problems.”
The French agency added, on its website: “We are closely monitoring cases of negative effects associated with the use of these treatments in cases of Covid-19,” especially for its use outside clinical trials.
The list warned by the French Medicines Safety Agency included: “chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, lopinavir, ritonavir, plaquinel, and caletra”, saying that priority in trying these medications should be given to Corona patients in the context of ongoing clinical trials.
The agency stressed the need to use treatments that were tested only in hospitals to treat patients with the Corona virus, explaining that “in no way should these drugs be used either for self-treatment, or based on a prescription from a city doctor, or as a prescription from a doctor for himself, to treat Covid -19 “.
The French Medicines Safety Agency said: “We recall that, to date, no drug has provided official evidence of its effectiveness in treating or preventing corona virus.”
The agency noted that a few cases of serious adverse reactions have been reported, after the use of these drugs, and that investigations are ongoing.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump told a news conference that more than a million doses of hydrochloroquine were released.
Earlier this month, Trump repeated his calls for the use of the drug “hydroxychloroquine”, saying it had achieved promising results in treating Corona patients.
