The company WhatsApp announced a few days ago officially the launch of the feature (Dark Mode) in its application for Android and iOS, after the feature was under testing during the past months, but now it is available in the official application and can be accessed.
This feature is one of the most required features by users, after the emergence of the dark mode in many other applications in the recent period such as: Facebook Messenger application Messenger.
The primary goal of most applications to include dark mode is to reduce eye strain in low-light environments and extend battery life.
In this context, a spokesperson explained that the company had found during its tests that true black and white contrast could lead to eye fatigue, and that the color scheme that I followed instead was less bright and easier to read. He added: When designing the dark mode, we spent time researching and experimenting with a focus on two points:
Readability: When choosing colors we wanted to reduce eye strain to a minimum and use the colors closest to the system default settings on Android and iPhone phones.
Information hierarchy: using color and other design elements to ensure that the most important information is highlighted.
How to activate the dark mode on WhatsApp?
Android 10 and iOS 13 users can use the dark mode by enabling it in the system settings. As for users of the Android 9 operating system or earlier, they can activate the dark mode manually, by following the following steps:
• Go to the WhatsApp app on your phone.
• Click on the three dots icon in the top right of the screen, then click Settings.
• Click on the “Chats” option.
• Click on Theme, then choose Dark.
