The ruling, read out by Judge James Burke, is close to the maximum sentence of 29 years. The 67-year-old, formerly influential film producer, was convicted on February 24 of sexual assault on former production assistant Mimi Halley and the rape of former rising actress Jessica Mann.

More than 100 women, including famous actresses, and Einstein accused sexual misconduct for decades, leading to the formation of the #MeTo movement against sexual assault and harassment. Weinstein denied the allegations, and said that the women having sex with him were all consensual.
