Japan’s Nikkei falls 6.1% due to SK concerns

The Nikkei 225 index on the Japan Stock Exchange tumbled 6.1 percent Monday morning, affected by the outbreak of the Corona virus and the rise of the yen against major currencies, as other Asian stock markets witnessed huge losses.

The Nikkei lost 1,276,686 points, or 6.15 percent, to settle at 19,473.07 at the end of the morning session at 1130 am local time (0230 GMT).

The broader Topix index lost 89.35 points, or 6.07 percent, to 1,382.11 points.

The Chinese Shanghai Composite Index fell by 1.9 percent, the Hang Seng Index on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange fell 4 percent, while the Kospi index in South Korea lost 4.2 percent.
