Vardi, who retired from international football with his country after the 2018 World Cup, is top scorer in the English Premier League with 19 goals after scoring two goals in a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa last Monday.
With Tottenham striker Caen still recovering from back thigh muscle surgery he underwent last January, and Manchester United striker Rashford absent due to a back injury, some nominated Fardi to participate in the European Cup in June and July.
“Who knows? Gareth and I have agreed to leave the door open for any reason that happens, and then we’ll sit together and discuss it (if there is a need),” Vardi, who scored 7 goals in 26 games for England, told Sky Sports.
He added, “There was no discussion or anything like that. The two (Caen and Rashford) colleagues are absent due to the injury, but they are on their way back in time. Only then will the matter be resolved.”
Southgate confirmed last week that Caen, who returned to training on Monday, and Rashford were on the road to recovery, but did not rule out the inclusion of Fardi. Nevertheless, Fardi admitted that the absence from the England squad helped him, and said: “I will not lie, as I have been getting more days off during the pausing period for international matches, so I can completely turn away from football for a while and this is in my interest.”
