English press reports revealed Saturday that the Premier League clubs will hold a meeting next Thursday to discuss the fate of the championship after suspending its competitions until the beginning of April due to the new Corona virus, amid varying opinions on what should be done.
The Sky Network, which owns Primerleague broadcast rights, said representatives of his 20 clubs will hold an “emergency meeting on Thursday to draw up plans for the remainder of the season.”
She pointed out that the date of the meeting set a link to another that will be held by the Continental Federation for the game (WIFA) on Tuesday, devoted to discussing the fate of the two club competitions (Champions League and Europa League), in addition to the European Cup 2020 for the teams, scheduled between June 12 and July 12 next.
And the “Covid-19” virus imposed its influence on various sporting events around the world, and led to almost complete paralysis in European football, especially in the five major national leagues that successively announced the suspension of competitions.
And remained the only England championship that has not announced any change in its schedule or in terms of preventing fans from attending, until Friday it decided to suspend the matches completely until the fourth of next April in its four grades.
The move came after the “Covid-19” virus was recorded with Arsenal coach Michael Artita and Chelsea player Calum Hudson-Odoi.
According to the reports, the clubs ’opinions on what the league’s fate will be will vary between calls to complete it from where they left off, and others calling for its cancellation.
And Sky quoted a source in one of the Premier League clubs as referring to “a 75 percent chance of not completing this season.”
For its part, quoted by “The Times” newspaper, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the English Football Association Greg Clark believed that it has become very difficult to complete the Premier League. The newspaper presented dramatic scenarios if this happened, including the club suffering huge financial losses, leading to the possibility of depriving Liverpool of crowning a title that has been waiting for thirty years.
The team currently leads the standings with 82 points from 29 games, in front of defending champions Manchester City, second place (57 points from 28 games).
West Ham Vice President Karen Brady wrote an article in the English newspaper The Sun, in which she made an “apology” from Liverpool because he would be deprived of the title, stressing the need to cancel the league and prepare for the 2020-2021 season.
“We cannot avoid the possibility that all levels of the EFL + association (the three lowest grades in the England championship), in addition to the Premier League, should be canceled, and this season is considered null because players cannot play, and matches cannot be played. “.
Sky network indicated that some club officials see a possibility to resume matches on the fourth of April, but others believe that it is realistic to start preparing for not holding any matches in the Premier League before the start of the 2020-2021 season in August.
