Corona increases the demand for WhatsApp and Facebook

News Agent – A new report published by market research company (Kantar) showed that the application of instant messaging WhatsApp has witnessed a significant increase in use in light of the measures taken all over the world to reduce the spread of the virus (Covid-19) COVID-19.
The Cantar report came after a previous report that also showed an increase in the use of social networks that have become a way for users, who have been forced to commit homes, to communicate with family, friends, and co-workers.

According to the report, which covered more than 25,000 consumers in 30 markets during the period from 14 to 24 March, the WhatsApp application witnessed a 40% increase in use due to the virus (Covid-19).

The report indicated that the growth rate of 40% witnessed by WhatsApp rose from the initial rate of 27% in the first days of the outbreak of the virus, to now reach about 41% on average, and the percentage rises to 51% in countries that live in the advanced stages of the spread of the virus. However, a country, such as Spain, has seen a massive increase in application usage of 76%.

The report also found that across all messaging platforms, usage growth was the largest in the 18 to 34 age group. In addition, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram have seen more than 40% use in the same demographics.

In general, Facebook usage increased by 37%, while local social media applications in China saw a rise in usage by 58%, according to (Kantar).

Even with the increased use of communications, consumers reported that they do not trust these platforms with regard to obtaining important news related to (Covid-19), national news channels and websites of government agencies were better options, as they considered 58%, 48% of Respondents, respectively, are a “trustworthy” source of news and information. And 11% of the participants counted the means of communication.
