Diplomatic sources announced yesterday, Thursday, that medical examinations showed a diplomatic infection of the Philippine Mission to the United Nations with the new Corona virus (Covid-19), thus being the first recorded infection at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
This diplomacy, working in the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, which deals with legal issues, went to the United Nations headquarters for the last time on Monday, and the next day, she showed flu symptoms and saw a doctor.
“(The Philippine diplomat) received a call yesterday (Thursday) telling her that she had Covid-19,” said a letter to the Philippine mission sent to several diplomatic delegations to the United Nations and obtained by AFP.
“The Philippine mission has been closed and all staff have been instructed” that a quarantine should be submitted, the letter added.
About 3,000 employees work for the United Nations Secretariat in New York, as well as many diplomats from 193 UN member states who travel between their diplomatic missions.
