The US Navy’s Sixth Fleet laid a self-contained stone on its ships during the periods between its visits to European ports due to fears that its sailors might contract the Corona virus.
The ships will remain at sea for at least 14 days after visiting any port in Europe, in order to avoid the spread of corona coronavirus, fleet spokesman Kyle Reins told CNN.
“Together with other fleets, we have defined a 14-day implementation period between port visits, to allow doctors to monitor the crews,” Reins added.
He stressed that this step will not affect the navy’s ability to perform its tasks.
The US Navy’s Sixth Fleet operates mainly in the Mediterranean, but also makes regular flights to the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea.
