Canada decides not to send its athletes to the Tokyo Olympics

The Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee decided not to send their athletes to the Tokyo Olympics and demanded that they be postponed due to the emerging Corona Virus-Covid 19 virus, a situation shared by Australia.

The Canadian Olympic Committee said in a statement that it had made the difficult decision not to send its athletes to Tokyo and requested the International Olympic Committee to postpone the games to next year due to the Corona epidemic, explaining that its decision finds full support from athletes, federations and the Canadian government.

The Canadian Olympic Committee called for speeding up the decision-making process regarding a possible delay after the president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, stated that the postponement was currently under consideration and that a decision would be taken within four weeks.
