VIENNA (Reuters) – The Austrian Sports Minister welcomed on Monday what he described as “the courageous decision of Canada” to withdraw from the 2020 Tokyo Games and called for the Olympics to be postponed.

“The closure of sports facilities and training facilities in many countries has already raised doubts about the principle of equal opportunities for participants in the 2020 Summer Games,” Werner Kugler said in a statement.

“For the sake of the health and safety of all participants, coaches and fans, I call for the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games.”
