The teenager, known as “Xiaofeng,” was bullied at school because of her appearance and felt insecure and inferior to others throughout her life because of her wrinkled skin, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”.
And Xiao appeared for the first time today, after undergoing a cosmetic process that completely changed her life, which took 7 and a half hours.
Surgeons at Shenyang Sunline Plastic Surgery Hospital said that Xiao Feng has “Progeria Guildford-Hutchinson Syndrome”, a rare genetic condition that occurs in an estimated one out of eight million live births and causes a person’s premature aging.
A hospital spokesman also told the newspaper: “In the case of Xiaofeng, the condition affected only her skin, not her members.”
The surgery was performed in the presence of 10 surgeons, three anesthesiologists, and five nurses, according to the hospital.
“The surgeons removed the excess skin which was seven centimeters (2.7 inches) thick from Xiaofeng,” said Dr. Shi Lingzi, the hospital’s president, as the doctors changed the shape of the nose, eyebrows, and mouth.
He added that the hospital “eventually canceled all medical bills for Xiaofeng, which totaled 500,000 yuan (73,000 dollars), because the administration wanted to use the money collected by the public for its recovery and future studies.”
“Xiaofeng’s mother has the same condition, and the teenage girl was able to receive medical treatment after she collected strangers to cover her medical bills.”
The doctor did not allow Xiaofeng to look in the mirror since the operation, and the girl could not contain her tears after seeing her new self for the first time in the event.
Before surgery, she never dared take a single selfie and had no friends.
Her father said, “Her skin started to hang when she was about a year old and the condition worsened with age. After she graduated from her school earlier this year, Xiaofeng chose to stop her education and complete from home because she was afraid to meet new friends and colleagues.”
“I am 15 years old, but I have a face that is 60 years old,” said the teen.
