The CEO of Snap, the owner of the Snapchat app, confirmed that the TikTok app can outperform the Instagram app owned by Facebook.

In detail, Evan Spiegel compared the content on Instagram to the content of the short video sharing platform Tik Tok, which has become immensely popular with young people around the world, especially in the United States.

Snapchat founder at the Digital Life Design Conference in Munich on Sunday, speaking on Instagram, said: “Talent-based content on a Chinese company Tic-Tac app is often more interesting than case-based content. In response to whether Tik Tok will surpass Instagram, Spiegel said: “This is possible.”

It is noteworthy that the application Tik Tok is very similar to the beginnings of the Snapchat application, which Facebook has sought for years to restrict its growth by copying its most famous features, a feature (stories) taking advantage of the immense popular base of Facebook and Instagram.

Indeed (stories) feature was launched in 2016 for the Instagram application and then for other Facebook applications, including the instant messenger and WhatsApp applications. Now the feature has more than 500 million users.

“A big fan of tiktok”

When asked Spiegel about his opinion of the application of Tic Tac, he said: “I love Tic Tac”, and he added: “I am a big fan.”

After the rise of Tik Tok, Facebook attempted to imitate it by introducing the Lasso app, yet Facebook was unable to restrict the growth of Tik Tok due to the limited availability of its new application. On the contrary, the Chinese application saw more than a billion downloads last year, according to SensorTower, the mobile application market research firm, and it was the second most downloaded app in 2019 in the world.

Meanwhile, the number of Facebook and Instagram downloads decreased by 13% year-on-year, according to Bank of America analysis last September.

However, the number of downloads is not the only sign of success. While Instagram has more than a billion monthly active users worldwide, market research firm App Annie has reported that there are an estimated 625 million active users per month. As for Snapchat, last October it announced 210 million daily active users.
