Shanghai Disneyland closes after Corona virus outbreak

BEIJING (Reuters) – The Walt Disney Company’s Shanghai Disneyland said it would close its doors from Saturday to help prevent the spread of the influenza-like corona virus that has spread in China’s Wuhan city, killing 25 people and injuring more than 800.

Friday began a week-long holiday in China on the occasion of the lunar new year, a period during which Shanghai Disney is often crowded with visitors.

“In response to efforts to prevent and control disease outbreaks and in order to ensure the health and safety of our guests and our employees, Shanghai Disney Resort temporarily closes Shanghai Disneyland,” Shanghai Disney Resort, which operates Shanghai Disney, said on its website.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and … we will announce the date for the resumption of work after ensuring the integrity of the situation,” she added.

Many shops and offices, including retail stores, airlines, travel agencies and hotels, are on high alert after the outbreak of the Coruna virus overshadowed the holiday week’s plans.
