A source in the Iraqi Presidency announced, on Monday evening, that Muhammad Allawi rejected his candidacy for the head of the government. The source attributed the reason to incapacitating conditions attributed to the “Saeron” block, which is affiliated with the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr.

A source in the presidency had earlier indicated a consensus on Muhammad Allawi, a candidate for prime minister.

On Monday, Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath sources revealed that the choice may be between Ali Shukri, Mustafa al-Kazimi, head of the intelligence service, and Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi.

According to the same sources, Al-Kazemi is somewhat acceptable from the street and was previously rejected by the Iranian axis, while Shukri and Allawi are completely rejected from the street.

Popular pressure

And Iraq has been languishing for more than a month and a half without an actual prime minister yet Adel Abdul-Mahdi resignedLate last November, following the impact of the popular movement, which has been since October 1 calling for an independent government away from quotas and early parliamentary elections.

Agree on the candidate

To that, the head of the Bayraq al-Khair bloc, MP Muhammad al-Khalidi, revealed on Monday that the President of the Republic will appoint a candidate for the post of prime minister later Monday, according to Alsumaria News, adding that “the characteristics of the candidate have been agreed with the rising masses.”

This comes in conjunction with an escalation witnessed by Iraq in all its southern and central governorates, in addition to the capital Monday, as demonstrators deliberately cut roads in Baghdad and a number of southern governorates after the end of the constitutional deadline to assign a candidate for prime minister.

Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath correspondent reported that clashes took place between the security forces and the demonstrators, who crossed the main “Mohammed Al Qasim” road in the capital, and the international road linking Baghdad and Nasiriyah, in addition to the road linking Maysan and the capital. The security forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators, which resulted in 17 demonstrators suffocating. The Security Media Cell also announced that 14 officers were wounded in these confrontations.
