Agree on the candidate
To that, the head of the Bayraq al-Khair bloc, MP Muhammad al-Khalidi, revealed on Monday that the President of the Republic will appoint a candidate for the post of prime minister later Monday, according to Alsumaria News, adding that “the characteristics of the candidate have been agreed with the rising masses.”
This comes in conjunction with an escalation witnessed by Iraq in all its southern and central governorates, in addition to the capital Monday, as demonstrators deliberately cut roads in Baghdad and a number of southern governorates after the end of the constitutional deadline to assign a candidate for prime minister.
Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath correspondent reported that clashes took place between the security forces and the demonstrators, who crossed the main “Mohammed Al Qasim” road in the capital, and the international road linking Baghdad and Nasiriyah, in addition to the road linking Maysan and the capital. The security forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators, which resulted in 17 demonstrators suffocating. The Security Media Cell also announced that 14 officers were wounded in these confrontations.
