Iranian clubs earlier threatened to withdraw from the continental competition, if the AFC insisted on playing matches outside Iran.
The AFC published a statement stating that the clubs of Shahr Khodro and the Iranian independence of Iran had agreed to play the matches of the second preliminary round in the United Arab Emirates.
The month of Khodro faces Bahraini Riffa on January 25 in the emirate of Sharjah, and on the same day, Tehran’s independence will play against Kuwait in Kuwait, Dubai.
The statement said that the Iranian clubs will play the group stage matches on their court naturally, provided that they play their internal matches in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds.
The AFC wants to spare Iran hosting any match in the first three rounds “to allow time for a reassessment of security concerns in the country.”
Nadia Persepolis and Sebahan play in the group stage, while the month of Khodro and Independence of Tehran are playing the preliminary round.
The security situation in Iran is witnessing instability after the escalation of political and military differences with the United States of America, following the assassination of Qasim Soleimani.
